How to make your book look professionally designed

Pick one look for your book, add ready-made boxes for key ideas, Scripture, prayers and reflections, and let the Studio handle the typesetting.

How to make your book look professionally designed

You are a message carrier, not a typesetter. You should never have to learn page geometry before your book can look like a real book.

1. Pick one look

In your book, open How your book looks and choose one:

  • Devotional — short daily readings, generous white space, a set-apart feel.
  • Coaching — practical, readable, room for steps and exercises.
  • Manifesto — bold, spacious, made to be quoted.
  • Modern — clean non-fiction with block paragraphs.
  • Classic — traditional book feel with indented paragraphs and drop caps.

One click sets your fonts, page size, margins, chapter openings and ornaments together, the way a book designer would set them. Nothing is destructive — you can switch at any time and your words are untouched.

If you want to change the details yourself, open Change the details myself. Most authors never need it.

2. Add the boxes readers love

While writing a chapter, type / and choose one of:

  • Key idea box — the sentence you want them to remember.
  • Scripture box — a passage set apart from the prose.
  • Prayer box — a short prayer to close the chapter.
  • Reflection question — a question to sit with.
  • Action step — the one thing to do today.

These print as proper boxes everywhere your book goes: your live preview, your PDF, your ebook and your Word download. Older drafts that used the previous highlight style are converted automatically, so nothing you wrote earlier is left looking broken.

3. Save and preview

Save your look, then open the preview. What you see is what gets typeset for print. Cover design, proofs and print readiness are handled inside the Book in Hand Accelerator.

4. Add a chapter ornament (optional)

Under Change the details myself, pick a Chapter ornament: a fleuron ❦, diamonds ◆ ◆ ◆, a cross ✝, a sparkle ✧ or a simple rule. It prints centred under every chapter title in your preview, PDF and ebook. Choose None to leave it off. Your chapter text is never changed.
